I am very sad to hear the news of Lance’s passing. We worked together as Upper Tribunal judges in the same court hearing centre in London.
I liked Lance, a quiet and gentle man with a wry sense of humour. It was both a surprise and a delight when he married Sherrie – a confirmed bachelor so happy to be succumbing at his age!
I remember him telling me about when he and Sherrie went for an interview with the US Immigration Service. Unsurprisingly, he was approved for admission/residence and spent the time answering the Immigration Official’s questions as to how the system worked in the UK..
He was with us when we had to evacuate our court building after one of the most devastating fires in central London for many years. It was not too much of a hardship to be found a temporary home close to St Paul’s Cathedral in a building recently vacated by Goldman Sachs – marble lined lifts and luxury offices.
